WPL Leads on Health and Safety Standard
Wastewater treatment specialist WPL has made a rapid transition to the new health and safety standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety standard was introduced in April 2018 and organisations are advised to transfer by March 2021 if they wish to retain a recognised certification.

CEN Publishes First EN Standard for PVC-O Pressure Pipes
The first European EN standard for oriented unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) pipes came out in April 2019, after an extensive four-year development process, initiated by TEPPFA. EN 17176 PVC-O piping systems for water supply and for buried and above-ground drainage, sewerage and irrigation under pressure, adopted in the 28 EU member states and other 6 member countries, creates a new Europe-wide voluntary standard for those manufacturing PVC-O pipes, where previously there had been a variety of non-aligned national standards.

Suqia Extends Deadline to Apply for 2nd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award to 1 September 2019
The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) extended the deadline to enter the second Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award to 1 September 2019. Applicants participating in the award will compete to win prizes totalling USD 1 million. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the award to encourage research centres, individuals, and innovators to find sustainable and innovative solar powered solutions for the scarcity of potable water.

Bureau of Reclamation Announces $29.1 Million in WaterSMART Grants to Use Water More Efficiently
Projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming were selected to receive grants and will help communities bolster water supply. The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation announced that 13 states will utilize $29.1 million in grants from the WaterSMART Program to help communities conserve water.

An All-time high: Almost 740,000 Tonnes of PVC Recycled in 2018 – up by 15.6% from 2017
VinylPlus®, the Voluntary Commitment to sustainable development of the European PVC industry, recycled 739,525 tonnes of PVC within its framework in 2018 – a 15.6% increase on the previous year. The results were presented at the 2019 edition of the VinylPlus Sustainability Forum in Prague, Czech Republic, where the industry shared further progress towards increasing the sustainability performance of PVC.
